A Kid and His Camera

A short trip to the mountains can change everything.

Hi! I’m the founder of RedHerring Photography. I’m not exactly a real company, so this site is more of a portfolio, at least for now.

I took up photography in September of 2021, when I happened to bring an old Fujifilm camera I had been gifted several years prior with me. I took a small interest in the hobby when I was a kid, but drifted from it for many years until the trip.

With my camera’s exposure turned slightly too high, I took several photos all around the area; the pond near our cabin, the valleys from the highest points we could get to, and nearby forests. On the day before we left, I walked along a nature trail that ran alongside a stream. I started taking photo after photo, steadily running faster, jumping across rocks, climbing trees, trying to get cooler and more interesting angles. Finally, I reached the end of the trail, a small set of waterfalls (pictured right). something about this final area just felt right for the final photo of the trip. Once satisfied, I headed back to the cabin, eager to share my photos with the world.

Over the course of 2022 and 2023, I continued taking photos of many subjects and landscapes, and in 2024, I’ve started to challenge myself to come up with more creative ideas and ways of doing photography.
